Baseball is a beloved American pastime, and one of the most widely played sports in the world. But why don't batters wear protective masks like those seen in other sports such as lacrosse and hockey? The reason is that in baseball, the batter is usually at least a few feet away from the pitcher, giving them enough time to react if a ball is thrown in their direction. Additionally, the mask would add extra weight and make it harder to swing the bat. For these reasons, batters in baseball do not wear masks.
